It’s national set-your-clock-ahead-and-change-your-car’s-oil day

Don’t believe it? Check out this list of holidays

You’ve heard of this national holiday, haven’t you – set-your-clock-ahead-and-change-your-car’s-oil day? What? You never heard of set-your-clock-ahead-and-change-your-car’s-oil day?

There’s a holiday for everything these days. Why not a set-your-clock-ahead-and-change-your-car’s-oil day?

We have all kinds of bizarre holidays. Many of our ‘National’ holidays celebrate foods, including:

  • National Pistachio Day – February 26 (remember when they used to be red)
  • National Spinach Day – March 26
  • National Prime Rib Day – April 27
  • International Sushi Day – Jun 18
  • National S’mores Day – August 10
  • National Homemade Cookies Day – October 10
  • National Gumbo Day – October 12
  • National Fast Food Day – November 16
  • National Chocolate Covered Anything Day – December 16
  • National Fruit Cake Day – December 27 (and January 3 is National Fruitcake Toss Day)

If you celebrated every food-based national holiday you’d weigh a ton. But, there are also days devoted to drinking:

  • New Year’s Day, rather logically, is also National Hangover Day
  • National Drink Wine Day – February 18
  • National Wine Day – May 25 (unlike National Drink Wine Day, you probably just look at the wine on this day)
  • International Beer Day – August 3 is followed by …
  • International Hangover Day – August 4
  • National Bicarbonate of Soda Day – December 30 (could this be in response to all these eating and drinking days and with anticipation for all the drinking you probably have planned for the next day?)

Other National holidays are focused on activities, such as:

  • National Nothing Day – January 16
  • National Inane Answering Message Day – January 30
  • National Chopsticks Day – February 6
  • National Quilting Day – March 17
  • National Goof Off Day – March 22
  • National Stress Awareness Day – April 16 (I think I’d rather celebrate National Forget Your Stress Day)
  • National High Five Day – April 19
  • National Hollerin’ Contest Day – June 16
  • National Kissing Day – June 19
  • International Kissing Day – July 6 (July 7 ought to be National Herpes Awareness Day)
  • National Video Games Day – September 12 (those who play these games probably celebrate this every day and most hours of everyday)
  • National Mud Pack Day – September 30

Other National holidays celebrate concepts and things, such as:

  • National Hat Day – January 15
  • National Kazoo Day – January 28
  • National Dandelion Day – April 5
  • National Honesty Day – April 30 (the rest of the year, apparently, you can feel free to lie like a rug)
  • National Bubba Day – June 2
  • National Nude Day – July 14 (wonder why they don’t have this in January?)
  • National Clown Day – August 4
  • National Fossil Day – October 17
  • National Ding-a-Ling Day – December 12

Compared to all of these holidays, national set-your-clock-ahead-and-change-your-car’s-oil day clearly has more redeeming value than most. OK, in keeping with National Honesty Day, this isn’t actually a national holiday. But, maybe it should be.

You do want to remember to set your clock ahead this weekend. And, remembering to change your oil on schedule is the best first way to get the most miles and value from your car.

(Note: Fire marshals around the country encourage you to change the batteries in your smoke alarm while setting your clocks ahead).
